The Canteen

The Canteen's menu and style of service is based on the tradition of classic seafood shacks, with the influence of modern American cuisine. Everything on the menu is made with high-quality, fresh ingredients. The raw bar features local shellfish, often with the inclusion of oysters from Provincetown.

The building itself is about 200 years old and has the reputation of a relaxed, fun atmosphere. The backyard seating area opens out to the Cape Cod Bay while the dining room is open to downtown Provincetown. The menu serves for lunch, dinner and brunch. It's also vegetarian friendly and has many gluten free options as well.

What We Do and Why

We believe that the Canteen should be more than just a place to eat. It is a place where everyone--local or visitor, young or old-- can find a seat, relax and enjoy the ambience.

The food is made from scratch which helps the economy and makes for better tasting food, too. The lobsters are shucked by hand every day for freshly prepared hot and cold lobster rolls. Our wine list features vintages grown here in the United States and in France.

Anyone involved in the work we do, whether it be those who supply the food or the guests who fill our dining room, are apart of our community and the ones who make The Canteen such a wonderful place.

Our 60-member team comes from different points of the world and are the heart and soul of the restaurant as we always try to give our best service to our guests.

You really feel like you're on a beach vacation when eating at Canteen - the outside seating in the back feels like you're in a big fun party. Food was great - very casual - from Lobster rolls to chicken sandwiches and many other items. Its really the setting in the back that makes this place a fun lunch spot or great for an afternoon drink at the outdoor bar!

THE perfect place for lunch - grab some oysters, fish tacos, lobster roll and a cold beer and head to the oceanside outdoor patio in back. Sit at a table or lounge on a couch - and grab another cold beer at the outdoor bar. Charming and delicious and outside and perfect. I didn't want to leave!
