The Canteen: A Culinary Gem
Located in the heart of Provincetown, The Canteen has become one of the town’s most beloved restaurants, known for its laid-back atmosphere, locally inspired menu, and deep connection to the community. Open year-round, it’s a gathering place for both visitors and residents, offering fresh, flavorful dishes that reflect the coastal character of Cape Cod.

The Canteen was founded by Rob Anderson and Loic Rossignon with a vision of creating more than just a place to eat. Their goal was to build a space where people could feel welcome, eat well, and experience the spirit of Provincetown. The result is a casual, counter-service restaurant that delivers big on taste, creativity, and charm.
The menu celebrates New England classics with a modern touch. One of the standout items is the lobster roll, served either warm with butter or chilled with mayo—both made with fresh lobster shucked daily on site. Other favorites include crispy Brussels sprouts, clam chowder, fish sandwiches, and rotating seasonal specials that highlight local ingredients.
The restaurant itself is housed in a restored 200-year-old building along bustling Commercial Street. Guests can eat indoors or head to the back patio, where picnic tables and beach chairs overlook Cape Cod Bay. The backyard space is especially popular in warm weather, offering a relaxed and scenic spot for everything from casual lunches to sunset dinners.
In addition to its daily menu, The Canteen is known for its festive community events. Its winter Holiday Market and cozy Winter Lodge bring cheer to the off-season, while themed nights like Taco Tuesdays and Fried Chicken Fridays give locals something to look forward to year-round.
The Canteen is open seven days a week, making it a reliable and rewarding stop no matter when you visit. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite after the beach or settling in for a sunset dinner by the water, The Canteen offers a taste of Provincetown at its most welcoming—and most delicious.
